Introduction

Whether your project is being refinished with a premium Sto synthetic stucco finish or El Rey acrylic fortified traditional cement stucco finish, the procedures are similar with the main difference being the type of materials utilized for patching, parapet treatment and finishes. Our tradesmen have been indoctrinated into the “Reule Standard”, which requires a proper evaluation and a thorough understanding of the procedures and materials required to professionally execute the work, and insure a superior result.
Variations exist for the application of Sto Synthetic Finishes versus an acrylic fortified traditional cement stucco finish.  For instance in Step 4, Sub Grade Sealers are required for a Sto finish but not required for a stucco finish.  For Step 5, Patching and Sealing of small cracks for Sto is accomplished with flexible crack fillers, and for stucco with fine aggregated, high polymer cements. For Step 6, Parapet and Wall Cap Protection for Sto is accomplished with flexible resins and mesh, and for stucco with bonding agents, polymer cements and mesh.  For Step 6, Primer for Sto is accomplished with acrylic resins with silica aggregate and for stucco with re-emulsifying primer / bonding agents. For Step 8, Final Finish Coats for Sto are accomplished with synthetic flexible finish coats and for stucco with acrylic fortified cement finish coats.
Most of the stucco refinishing industry has migrated to high quality synthetic stucco finish like Sto for its long term durability and aesthetics, but there is still a place for economical cement stucco finishes. Reule Sun Corporation can provide you beautiful, long term synthetic and traditional stucco finishes, to fit your budget and aesthetic needs.
Step 1

Step 1: Trenching for Subgrade Protection

Protection for Base of Wall
Trenching where stucco meets soil 4” to 6” exposes base of wall for product application.

Products Below Soil Maintains Aesthetics
Application of the sealers, primers and finish coats to the wall below soil line offers protection and a clean transition for the wall surface.

Step 2

Step 2: Masking and Tarping for Total Protection

Protection for Your Home’s Exterior
Mask all windows, doors, and ornamental details. Cover and protect shrubs, landscaping, drives, and walkways to maintain the beauty of your home’s exterior. Translucent plastic film over windows allows light to filter into your home. Plastic film also prevents etching of glass from cement patching products.

Professional Masking for Great Transitions
Proper masking at windows, doors, vigas or other transitions makes for a superior seal and offers unsurpassed aesthetics.

Step 3

Step 3: Hydro Blasting to Prepare the Wall

The Ultimate in Surface Preparation
High pressure machines boost the water pressure from average 60 psi up to 5000 psi. This high pressure water jet prepares the wall unlike any hand preparation or water blasting previously available. High pressure, low volume water works on the entire wall surface with minimal water usage.

Creating a Solid Foundation
Hydro blasting opens cracks, removes loose and deteriorated stucco/paint and completely cleans the surface, allowing for a superior bond of the new Sto finish products. Optional sand injected blasting cuts paint and texture coatings roughing up the surface for a superior bond.

Step 4

Step 4: Subgrade Sealer to Fight Water Wicking

Consolidates Old Porous Stucco at Grade
Water resistant sealer is applied onto the wall below soil and is carried up the wall 12” to 16” – sealing the wall against water absorption. Protection below grade reduces the effects of moisture and salts, which can leave a white stain on the surface and cause stucco deterioration.

Step 5

Step 5: Patching and Sealing to Restore Wall

Seal Cracks

Inject cracks from 1/32” to 1/8” with Sto flexible crack filler to seal, level and fill the surface.

Rebuild and Level the Wall
Level surface voids with Sto fiberglass reinforced one coat stucco (OCS).

The Foundation for a Superior Finish
Proper rebuilding of stucco and sealing cracks on walls, windows and doors makes for a weather-tight application.

Step 6

Step 6: Sto® Flexyl Parapet and Wall Cap Protection

100% Waterproof Protection
Eliminates water leaks, cracking and deterioration due to freezing and thawing at parapet, wall and chimney caps. Eliminates that “wet look” after a rain.

A Permanent Seal From Stucco to Roof Flashing
Seal the number one problem for flat roofs – the transition from stucco to roofing. Eliminates nails, required by lathing, that can cause leaks.

Maintains Your Home’s Good Looks
Sto Flexyl resin and fiberglass mesh is is a thin veneer, three step application that will not alter the aesthetics like re-lathing.

Step 7

Step 7: Sto Primer for Complete Adhesion

Superior Adhesion and Uniform Color
Application of the primer covers patchwork and Flexyl to create even absorption and uniform coloring for the final finish coat. Primer conditions and solidifies the underlying stucco surface. Primer forms an intermediate bond for the finish coat to ensure superior adhesion.

Primers for Troweled Finishes
Sand aggregated primer for a hand-troweled finish offers an additional mechanical bond.

Step 8
Step 8: Final Finish Coats for Lasting Beauty
The Ultimate in Beauty and Durability
Flexible finishes offer crack resistant, high performance exteriors. Breathable to ensure moisture does not get trapped behind the system. Water resistant to keep the moisture out and virtually eliminate staining and discoloration, also prevents freeze/thaw cycles that deteriorates stucco. Uniform, even color for unsurpassed aesthetics.

Formulated for our Southwest Climate
From over 800 Sto products, Sto enhanced finish coats are the most advanced products in the Sto product line with Powerflex being the recommended choice for restoring homes and businesses.

* Painting stucco is not recommend for heated walls, due to it sealing the wall assembly that chokes off the required breathability, which can lead to condensation and mold issues within the wall cavity, along with an accelerated deterioration of the underlying stucco base coats. Painting is an option, as a cost consideration for free standing garden walls and other stucco surfaces that are not required to breathe.  Painting stucco will substantially alter the reflective characteristics and compromise the natural stucco aesthetics.

From the salesman to the project manager to the workers, this was professional pleasurable experience. The company's culture was evident as everyone bent over backwards to ensure that the customer experience was optimal. They brought their own portable toilet and were very gentle with plants and bushes. The salesman Steve and foreman Jay communicated through the phases of project and most importantly of all, my house looks better than my neighbors' who used what looked like "two guys and a truck". I called the office and the owner Bob Ruele picked up the phone - hands-on service. I would highly recommend this firm.
— S. Collins, Albuquerque
Reule Sun did a fantastic job of re-stuccoing our home, and also painting the trim. Steve, Jay and the
entire crew were a pleasure to work with from start to finish. We were very impressed with the quality of
their work and the attention to detail. We highly recommend Reule Sun!!
— Ron S., Rio Rancho
The work went well. They gave us a clear quote, scheduled the work in advance, did nice work in a
timely fashion. Our house looks very nice! Thanks!
— Lisa B., Albuquerque
It all went pretty smoothly. The only comment I would have is that it is hard to find someone in the
office without making an appointment, no matter what hours they have posted.
— Andrew A., Albuquerque
Reule Sun did a FABULOUS job on our house, with incredible attention to detail, extremely thorough preparation, total job-site neatness and cleanliness, lightning responsiveness to any issues which arose, and a very high level of craft. The workers were polite, respectful, friendly, and very conscientious. You will pay for this. But we found it more than worth the difference. After watching our job, the neighbor across the street has hired them for a complete stucco job and also new windows. (If your windows are within shouting distance of needing replacement, do these just ahead of the stucco job.)
— Dallas P., Albuquerque
Reule Sun was excellent throughout the entire process. Steve Savage provided the cost estimate and was very professional in explaining what was needed and presenting options for the work. Bob Reule was flexible with the schedule when we needed to move the job from late 2015 to early 2016. All the installers did an excellent job, which included significant prep work prior to the finish. Miguel and his finishing crew were especially good. They spent almost 5 days completing their work, and the final result was terrific. Jay worked with us to ensure we were happy with the color and the overall effort. Our house looks great. I would definitely recommend Reule Sun for any stucco job.
— Allan C., Albuquerque
Bob was an extremely professional contractor to work with.  He provided several design options and was very tuned in to our vision.  He was always accessible, completed all work timely, and followed through with all our concerns.  We have no hesitation in recommending Reule Sun Corp.  We love the finished project!
— Dennis W., Albuquerque
